Direct mail + digital for home service pros

Fill your board before the January dead zone hits.

You know the stretch. The holidays wrap, the phones go quiet, and three trucks are still sitting in the lot at 9 a.m. while payroll still clears Friday. We put your postcard in the driveways of owner-occupied homes in the exact towns you want, then, if you want the extra push, hit those same homeowners on their phones with Facebook, Instagram or ChatGPT ads timed to the day your card lands. List, design, print, postage and ads under one roof. You just answer the phone.

Straight answer: does direct mail still work for contractors?

Yes, when it hits the right homes. The ANA Response Rate Report puts prospect-list mail at roughly 2 to 5% response, and its 2024 edition put direct mail's median ROI at 112%, ahead of paid search at 93%. The catch: it has to reach homeowners (not renters), land more than once, and come with a way to measure it, like an offer code your CSRs log in your CRM.

  • Owner-occupied homes only, filtered by home age and value. No apartments, no renters.
  • Optional "check your mailbox" ads that go live with your drop: Meta only, ChatGPT only or a mix that fits your budget. See how Mailbox Sync works
  • A custom QR code on every card, plus a simple way to see what booked using the CRM you already run.
  • Free, no obligation
  • Plan in one business day
  • Month-to-month, no long contract

Tell us your trade and your turf. We'll pull real homeowner counts for your towns, mock up your card and ads, and map your mail dates. Back to you in one business day.

Step 1 of 2: your trade and turf

The neighborhoods you'd love to see your trucks in more often.

When do you want cards landing?
Add Mailbox Sync ads?

Optional add-on: a management fee plus ad spend you fund up front. Pick one, a mix, or none.

Only if you picked an ad channel. Helps us size the plan.

Your info goes to PrintFast only. No spam, no list selling, ever.

Sample only: the postcard in the mailbox and the matching ad on the homeowner's phone carry the same look and offer.

Picture this

Two shops. Same town. Same Tuesday in January.

Same trucks, same techs, same Google reviews. One thing is different, and it happened six weeks earlier.

7:40 a.m.

Shop A waited until it got slow

The board's got two callbacks and a warranty visit. Your best tech is asking if there's anything coming in. The CSR is refreshing the lead app, fighting four other outfits for the same shared lead. You're doing math on whether to send a guy home or eat the hours.

Now you're mailing in a panic, the card lands in February, and the first real call comes in March.

7:40 a.m.

Shop B mailed in December

Their card hit 5,000 owner-occupied driveways the first week of December and again right after New Year. Those same homeowners have been seeing the matching ad between scrolls ever since.

The phone rings and the homeowner says the line every owner wants to hear: "I've seen you guys everywhere." That's not luck. That's a mail calendar.

Run your own numbers

What could one drop put on your board?

Plug in your real numbers. The defaults sit at the conservative end of the ANA prospect-list range on purpose. If it pencils out here, it pencils out.

ANA prospect-list range is roughly 2 to 5%. We start you at 2.

Mailbox to phone to booked call

How it works: four steps from your towns to a ringing phone

You've got trucks to run. Here's the whole job, start to finish.

  1. Pick your turf

You name the towns. We build the list: owner-occupied homes only, filtered by home age and value so the card lands where the work and the wallets are.

  2. We build the card and the ads

Design, copy and offer written for your trade and season, plus social and search ads that match it, so the homeowner recognizes you on sight.

  3. Drops land, ads go live

We print, pay postage and mail. If you added Mailbox Sync, your ads switch on around your in-home date. Then we hit the same homes again.

  4. Your CRM keeps score

Every card gets a custom QR code to your campaign page or any link you choose. Have your CSRs tag postcard calls in ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or whatever you run, then send us the results so we can sharpen the next drop.

Mailbox Sync ads

The day your card hits the mailbox, your ad hits their phone.

A postcard alone gets one look at the kitchen counter. Mailbox Sync is the optional add-on that fixes that: we build Facebook, Instagram, Google or ChatGPT ads off the same design and offer, then time them to your in-home date in three waves so the homeowner sees you before, during and after the card lands. By the time something breaks, you're not a stranger. You're the outfit that's been on their street all month.

  1. Wave 1 2 to 3 days before it lands

    "Heads up, check your mailbox"

Short teaser ads in the same towns build curiosity so the card gets read instead of tossed with the circulars.

  2. Wave 2 The week it lands

"Did you get your neighborhood offer?"

Search and social ads repeat the exact offer on the card, so anyone who misplaced it can still book in two taps.

  3. Wave 3 Until the offer ends

    "Your offer ends Friday"

Deadline ads and follow-ups to anyone who scanned the QR or hit your landing page and didn't book yet.

Where your ads run

  • Facebook and Instagram

Feed, Stories and Reels ads in your mail towns, built from the same list where the platform allows and the same ZIP codes everywhere else. More on social ads

  • Google Search, Display and YouTube

Catch the homeowner who reads your card, then searches your trade and town. Your ad is waiting at the top. More on Google Ads

  • ChatGPT ads New

Homeowners now ask ChatGPT who to call. Sponsored placements put your company in those conversations about your trade, and the platform only opened to small advertisers in 2026, so early movers get the room.

  • Follow-up ads

Anyone who scans the card's QR code or visits your campaign page sees your offer again until they book or the deadline passes.

Pick your mix

Every shop's budget is different. Start with the channel that fits, add more when the calls justify it.

  • Mail only

    Postcards, no ads

The list, design, print, postage and a custom QR code. A strong start when every dollar has to go into the mailbox.

  • Mail + Meta

    Facebook and Instagram

The most common first add-on. Puts the card in front of neighbors on the apps they already scroll, before and after it lands.

  • Mail + ChatGPT

    ChatGPT ads

For the shop that wants to be first in the newest place homeowners ask who to call, while few local competitors are there.

  • Mail + the full mix

    Meta, Google and ChatGPT

All three waves on every channel. The heaviest coverage for a big drop or a market you want to own this winter.

How the ads are billed: two line items, no surprises

Ad management fee

Covers strategy, ads built from your card, wave timing to your in-home date, launch, monitoring and sharing the results from the ad platforms. Separate from your mail cost.

Ad spend, funded up front

The budget the platforms actually charge to show your ads. You choose the amount and fund it before launch, so wave 1 goes live on schedule instead of waiting on a payment while your cards hit mailboxes.

Your free Territory Plan shows the management fee and a recommended spend for your towns before you commit to anything.

The postcard opens the door. The ads keep it from closing.

EDDM vs. shared leads vs. targeted mail + digital

EDDM is cheap per piece because it mails every door on the route, including the renters on the second floor who can't sign off on a water heater. Here's how the three most common plays stack up.

Comparison of three ways contractors buy new homeowner calls
What matters EDDM saturation mail Shared lead sites PrintFast Mail + Digital
Who gets it Every door on the carrier route, renters and apartments included A homeowner who is often shopping several contractors at once Owner-occupied homes in the towns you pick
Target by home age or value No No Yes
Repeat touches Only if you rebuy the route One shot per lead Multiple drops plus ads between them
Shows up on their phone No No Optional Meta, Google or ChatGPT ads timed to the drop
Measuring results Hard to prove Per lead Custom QR code and offer code you tag in your CRM
Who owns the relationship You The platform You, from the first call on

Mistake check

5 ways contractors torch money on postcards

If you've mailed before and swore it "doesn't work," odds are good one of these was the culprit.

  • Mailing renters

Saturation mail hits apartments and rentals. Those folks call the landlord, not you.

  • One and done

A single drop is a coin flip. Response builds on the second and third touch, when they finally need you.

  • No offer, no deadline

"Family owned since 1998" isn't a reason to call today. A seasonal offer with an end date is.

  • No way to measure it

If nobody logs an offer code or asks "how'd you hear about us?", you'll never know which card paid for itself. Put a code on the card and tag it in your CRM.

  • Ads that don't match the card

Different look, different offer, different message. The homeowner never connects the two, so you paid twice for zero recognition.

The winter mail calendar

When to mail so the phones ring in January

December mailboxes fill up fast with holiday cards and catalogs. Get in early, then stay in.

  1. Now through mid-November

Lock your towns, pull real homeowner counts, approve the card and the matching ads.

  2. First week of December

Drop one lands. Ads go live in the same ZIP codes. You're the name on the fridge before the cold snap.

  3. December 17

USPS's recommended last day to send First-Class Mail for delivery before Christmas in 2026. Waiting until here means you're competing with every holiday card in the country.

  4. Right after New Year

Drop two hits exactly when the dead zone starts and homeowners are staring at the furnace, the water heater and the to-do list.

  5. February

Drop three. This is the one that books your spring before your competitor's first card even prints.

Mailing in January is the repair call. Mailing in December is the maintenance agreement. You already know which one makes more money.

What to mail this winter

The winter card that works for your trade

The offer is half the battle. Here's where we usually start each trade, then we tune it to your towns and your margins.

  • HVAC

Furnace tune-ups before the first real freeze, no-heat priority service, and change-out financing for 15-year-old systems.

  • Plumbing

Frozen pipe prevention, water heater flush or replace, and sewer camera inspections before the ground freezes.

  • Electrical

Standby generator installs, panel upgrades for older homes, and safety inspections before holiday loads.

  • Roofing

Ice dam and leak checks now, plus "book your spring roof at winter pricing" to fill March and April.

  • Landscaping

Snow removal contracts for the season and early-bird spring cleanup and mowing sign-ups.

  • Pest Control

Rodent exclusion as critters move indoors, plus a year-round protection plan.

  • Painting

Interior projects while exteriors are on pause, and early booking for spring exterior slots.

  • Cleaning, Fencing, Pool and more

Holiday deep cleans, winter fence repair, pool closing and spring opening reservations. Every trade has a winter angle.

Who's on the other end of the phone

A print shop that grew up with the trades

PrintFast is a print and marketing shop in Lakewood, New Jersey. For years, multi-trade shops coming up through the CEO Warrior coaching program ordered their homeowner mailings through us. We've seen what pulls calls and what ends up in the recycling bin.

Today we run the whole thing in-house: the list, the design, the printing, the postage and the digital ads that back the card up. When you call, you get a person in Lakewood who knows what a shoulder season is, not a ticket number.

See my homeowner counts
  • Owner-occupied targeting, not EDDM. Filter by town, ZIP, home age and home value.

  • Design, copy, print and postage bundled. No surprise line items when the drop goes out.

  • Matching ads built from your card. Same look and offer across mailbox and phone.

  • Month-to-month. We recommend three months because repeat touches are what drive response.

  • Plan in one business day. Real counts and a mockup, not a generic rate sheet.

Straight answers

Questions contractors ask us every week

Does direct mail still work for home service contractors?

Yes, when it reaches the right homes. The ANA Response Rate Report places prospect-list direct mail at roughly 2 to 5% response, and its 2024 edition reported a 112% median ROI for direct mail versus 93% for paid search. What separates the shops that win is mailing owner-occupied homes, mailing more than once, and logging postcard calls in your CRM so you know what booked.

When should I mail my winter postcards?

Approve your card in early to mid-November so drop one lands the first week of December, ahead of holiday card traffic. Hit the same homes again right after New Year and once more in February. USPS recommends sending First-Class Mail by December 17, 2026 for delivery before Christmas, so waiting that long puts you in the busiest mailbox of the year.

Is EDDM or a targeted list better for a contractor?

For most home service companies, a targeted owner-occupied list. EDDM mails every door on a route, including renters and apartments who can't approve a furnace, water heater or roof. A targeted list filters by owner-occupied status, home age and home value, so every card goes to someone who can actually say yes.

How many postcards should my company send?

Mail fewer homes more often instead of more homes once. A common starting point is 2,500 to 5,000 owner-occupied homes in your best ZIP codes, mailed at least three times over the season, with matching ads running in the same area between drops. Your Territory Plan shows the real homeowner counts for your towns.

How do I know which jobs came from the postcard?

Your CRM is the scoreboard. Every card carries a custom QR code to your campaign page (or any link you want) and an offer code. Have your CSRs tag those calls and jobs in ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber or whatever you use, then send us the numbers so we can tune the next drop around what actually booked. Rather have us pull the numbers? Give us access to your CRM and we will.

What does "direct mail plus digital" actually mean?

The homeowner pulls your postcard from the mailbox, then sees a matching ad with the same look and offer on Facebook, Instagram or Google that same week. Two sightings in two places builds recognition, so when something breaks, your name is already the one they know.

When do the ads start compared to the postcard?

Mailbox Sync runs in three waves around your in-home date: teaser ads 2 to 3 days before the card lands ("keep an eye on your mailbox"), offer ads the week it lands ("did you get your neighborhood offer?"), and deadline and follow-up ads until the offer ends. The ads use the same design and offer as the card so homeowners connect the two.

How much do the ads cost on top of the mail?

Mailbox Sync is optional and billed in two parts: an ad management fee (strategy, ads built from your card, wave timing, launch, and sharing the ad platform results) and the ad spend the platforms charge, which you choose and fund up front so the ads go live on schedule. You can run Meta only, ChatGPT only, Google, or a mix. Your free Territory Plan shows the fee and a recommended spend for your towns before you commit.

Can you run ChatGPT ads for my company?

Yes. ChatGPT opened self-serve ads to smaller advertisers in 2026, and homeowners increasingly ask it who to call for repairs. We set up sponsored placements on conversations about your trade, match the message to your postcard offer, and send clicks to your campaign landing page. You can run it on its own or alongside Facebook, Instagram and Google.

Am I locked into a long contract?

No. Combined print and digital plans run month-to-month. We recommend at least three months because repeat touches are what move response.

Which trades do you work with?

HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping, pest control, painting, fencing, house cleaning, pool, garage door and other home service businesses across the U.S. See the full direct mail and digital combined service for details.

The board doesn't fill itself. Your postcard can.

Tell us your trade and your towns. In one business day you'll have real homeowner counts, a card mockup, sample "check your mailbox" ads and a mail calendar built to keep your trucks rolling through January.
